1960s - Solid Precious Metal Contacts
· Exacting Tolerances
· Proven Reliability
· Demanding Manufacturing Techniques
· Case Study
At the outset of variable resistive components, precious metal was selected as the material for the sliding contacts for several reasons. At the time, it presented the best combination of electrical properties, corrosion resistance, and mechanical performance. However, the combination of tremendously expensive raw material and extraordinarily tight manufacturing tolerances made the production of these contacts foreboding to many. In fact, when Micro Contacts answered the request for quotation, it took us two years to convince our customers that we could do what many had declined. If there is any question as to our resulting performance, consider that despite all our consequent innovations and improvements, we are still known as the suppliers of precision precious metal contacts.
