Micro Contacts Inc. has introduced a new, low-cost patented waterproof miniature sealed switch. The switch is the production version of the prototype shown last year. For the first time ever, a sealed switch is delivered complete, ready to install to the customer, requiring only a single assembly operation that can be easily automated. Designed in anticipation of the need for the newest closed waterproof systems, the Micro Contacts miniature switch will be structured in different ways depending on customer specifications. It uses a simplified design, eliminating as many as 6 or 7 parts that are found in conventional snap-action switch technology. The company considers the product to be a more flexible, dynamic design because of simplified assembly and the reduction in parts. Micro Contacts anticipates dramatic cost savings up to 60% for its customers.  Multiple terminal configurations to meet specific applications are offered to customers. The mini-switches are custom packaged to match customer production requirements. Switches are delivered on spools for automated assembly lines, on strips, in special packaging or in bulk. The miniature waterproof switch is constructed with a stainless steel cover, gold-plated base metal contacts, in a thermoplastic polymer base with elastomeric seals. It arrives totally sealed and does not require the use of potting materials, as do competing products. Instead of the many hand operations normally used in manufacture, the Micro Contacts switch is manufactured on a totally automated assembly line. The result is consistent quality and reliability.  The patent for Micro Contacts' waterproof miniature sealed switch is held for the product design and the manufacturing process as well.
